Debbie's actions
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.

Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

Debbie Berthold 4/29/2019 8:48 AMI spent time trying to find planting containers that were food safe. Some new planters, imported, gave off terrible chemical fumes. Not safe for growing a garden for additional health benefits. I've discovered you can find safe, stock pots and large pans at Goodwill that will be portable and much safer to grow mini vegi gardens or herb gardens. Much cheaper, too! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Debbie Berthold 4/01/2019 7:40 AMI have an acrylic reusable straw that can be cleaned with a baby bottle brush. So far, it's lasted 4 years. I also have a large collection of reusable grocery bags that I tote to the grocery story each time. Some I've actually worn out.
