5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.

Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

Liberty Decker 4/24/2019 7:16 PMHey guys! We're almost at the finish already! Good job! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Liberty Decker 4/13/2019 3:33 PMI regularly use plastic grocery bags. They can be substituted with cloth reusable bags. -
Liberty Decker 4/11/2019 7:59 AMThis challenge has made me realize how often I do things without thinking about the environmental impact it may cause. Yesterday, I nearly grabbed a plastic straw to put in my smoothie at a coffee shop. I stopped myself just in time! Also, drinking a smoothie from a bendable plastic cup is more challenging than one might think! At least the cup was recyclable (and my clothes are washable)! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersFive minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?
Liberty Decker 4/05/2019 6:39 AMI was used to taking hot, relaxing showers. Honestly, 90% of my time spent in the shower was just standing still, enjoying the feeling of water running down my body. But the five-minute shower challenge has revealed to me that I was wasting both time and water. I have discovered that five minutes is just the right amount of time to scrub up and wash my hair, and I do not feel lethargic upon exiting the shower, as I normally do.-
Liberty Decker 4/05/2019 6:47 AMThe next step I can take, is to drink all the water I take. I often find myself forgetting to finish a bottle of water, or leaving a half-finished cup of water out, accidentally. Thinking back, I know I have wasted a lot of water in that way.

Liberty Decker 4/03/2019 6:48 PMHey everybody! Great work! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reuseable one but it's just hard to make the switch. Think about what stands in your way of making this a habit. By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Liberty Decker 3/29/2019 4:22 PMIt will be hard, because it's hard to remember to bring the mugs. But I can set reminders in my phone. I feel accomplished to know that I will be keeping 30 cups out of the landfill, and saving money in the process. Hopefully, I will be able to maintain the habit even after the 30 days are up!
