REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodCan organic farming feed the world? Which side of the argument do you fall on? Why?
Evan Hughes 4/25/2019 12:56 PMOrganic farming is a double edge sword: because yields are lower, far more arable land is used to produce comparable crop yields to GMO foods. Organic vs. GMO crops is a highly complex issues that requires endless and constant research, and yields no black-and-white, easy-to-digest (pun intended) answers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodConsider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?
Evan Hughes 4/25/2019 12:53 PMI help maintain an organic vegetable garden of usual offenders: Kale, tomatoes, herbs, squash, cucumber, you name it! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Evan Hughes 4/25/2019 12:52 PMMy sister cans pickles semi-annually, which I enjoy throughout the year. Boom! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your zipcode, and in your state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Evan Hughes 4/25/2019 12:51 PMBy sharing 2.2k square feet with three other people in a house with a brand-new energy efficient furnace, new windows, and new insulation, my household is doing it's part to conserve energy in our zip code.
