Mckenna's actions
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by opting into paperless billing and ending unwanted subscriptions.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 3 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 10 minutes researching and recycling all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Water
Insulate Water Pipes and Water Heater
I will avoid wasting water while waiting for the shower or sink to heat up.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Energy
Heat and Cool Naturally
I will naturally heat and cool my house, office, or dorm room by opening or closing my windows, curtains, and blinds, and by using fans.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.

Mckenna Miller 4/30/2019 9:01 AMThis challenge is a great idea and should be more utilized worldwide, it will quickly help make our world a better place! I'm glad I got to be a part of this! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Mckenna Miller 4/28/2019 7:46 PMOne food choice that could do more good than harm is to eat more fruits and vegetables grown locally or even from your own garden! -
Mckenna Miller 4/22/2019 9:48 PMHappy earth day everyone! To take a small step toward continuing my efforts to make my footprint smaller, I got a reusable straw for me and two friends. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Mckenna Miller 4/21/2019 8:01 PMSeeing my amount of waste decrease is so freeing! What I am trying to do more of is use renewable straws, bags and other plastic things to reduce my waste. -
Mckenna Miller 4/10/2019 8:59 AMi think if more classes of all ages did these challenges, we could change the world a lot faster than we are now! -
Mckenna Miller 4/10/2019 8:57 AMIt’s a lot easier to eat meatless meals when you are living on a college campus where none of the meat looks very appetizing in the first place! Although vegan meals is an added challenge! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Mckenna Miller 4/10/2019 8:55 AMI think America eats so much meat because it has grown to be a part of our culture. This is because of social gatherings, grilling and barbecuing, fast food and festivals, etc. in The recent years, it has definitely been shifting more with fad diets, but we can continue causing change by raising awareness. -
Mckenna Miller 4/08/2019 12:57 PMAfter about a week of doing this challenge, I've gotten in a routine that I don't even have to remind myself to do a lot of these challenges. It really shows how easy it is to change a few things you do every day to make the world a healthier place!

Mckenna Miller 4/02/2019 8:54 PMJoining this team was all because of Into to Environmental Studies, and even though it was a requirement, it is very interesting to learn all the ways I can make my footprint smaller. When learning about environmental issues during class, it always feels to large scale. After joining this site, I was presented with dozens of things I can do to help the environment. It just goes to prove that everyone is important enough to be able to make a change.-
Keoki Kakigi 4/02/2019 9:26 PMThank you for sharing! We were wondering about LiveGreenerLax but now we see. The Blazers thank you and your professor.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersFive minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?
Mckenna Miller 4/01/2019 9:08 PMAnother step to take after reducing showering time is reducing how often you shower. Instead of showering every day, it can be better to shower every other day, plus it's better for your hair!
