Danielle's actions
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper each day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by opting into paperless billing and ending unwanted subscriptions.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of C02 over the course of the next year.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Choose Two-Sided PrintingChoosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?
Danielle Roelse 4/05/2019 8:10 AMI could put a sticky note on my co-workers computers to remind them to print on two-sided paper when possible. I work for UW-L, so I could mention to our on-campus club, Students for Sustainability, that they could send out an email to everyone in the club and around campus. The email could have some easy tips and tricks for saving paper when printing or doing homework. My supervisor at work also encourages me to use one-sided recycled paper when I only need one page printed. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Danielle Roelse 4/05/2019 8:07 AMAlthough I am only one person, it made me feel like I am making an impact by discontinuing my paper bills that I get each month. Not only is it more convenient, but it is more environmentally friendly to pay bills online. Next, I will try to get my roommates to discontinue certain bills and subscriptions they have that get mailed to our apartment. I know they don't even open halk of the mail they get, so they will want to take action and help make an impact.
