Abby's actions

Energy

Switch to Cold Water

I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of C02 over the course of the next year.

COMPLETED

Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.

    Energy Switch to Cold Water
What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

I plan on using it to buy more things that I would need instead of using it on things that I would throw away right away. It is important to truly buy things you need and not just want and then throw away

    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

By incorporating these into my life, I could begin to use reusable items, such as the reusable straw that I just got for easter, and I can begin to use reusable bags instead of plastic bags

Earth day was yesterday and on social media it was so great to see posts about how beautiful the earth truly is, but it instills the need to why we must sustain it and keep it clean.

For part of my Easter gift this year, I got a fold-up, reusable straw. It was awesome

My sister is also in this class, so it is fun to push each other to continue to keep up our challenges

As the challenge is going on, I am starting to feel like I am doing these things out of habit now.

my challenge is making me see the world differently and makes me want to continue to do these challenges after this is over. I feel like I am making a difference, even with a small step.

My challenge is going great. I like knowing that what I can do to help the environment is huge. I can do so many more things than I thought.

I chose the actions that I did because I know that I can do better for the environment and I wanted to challenge myself to keep the environment clean and do my job to sustain it. After learning more about the environment in my class, I know that there is more that I can do to help, and I challenge myself to do it.

    Transportation Car Share
Take a moment to think of places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

I sometimes go home on the weekends and I take back people who are going to the same location as me so that we all don't have to drive and waste gas or energy for transportation
