Dylan's actions
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Energy
Heat and Cool Naturally
I will naturally heat and cool my house, office, or dorm room by opening or closing my windows, curtains, and blinds, and by using fans.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Dylan Bunders 4/09/2019 6:27 PMI believe that purchasing locally grown food would do a lot of good for myself and the community. Purchasing local ensures that I know where my meat/produce is coming from, and it also allows me to support the people in my community, such as local farmers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?
Dylan Bunders 4/01/2019 4:57 PMPlastic water bottles are very convenient for those with a very busy schedule. They are always readily available, and you can easily grab one and go when you have to head out the door rather quickly. I can set myself up to succeed with this goal by filling my water bottle up every night before I go to bed so it is ready for me in the morning when I wake up.-
Morgan Gary 4/02/2019 8:03 AMGreat goal! I find setting up my "zero waste kit" at night and making sure I bring it with me each morning really makes a difference in my choices throughout the day!

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reuseable one but it's just hard to make the switch. Think about what stands in your way of making this a habit. By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Dylan Bunders 4/01/2019 4:54 PMIt is tough to use a reusable mug because it is not something that is easy to carry around all day on a college campus. It is more convenient to use the disposable mugs provided in the dining centers, but by using a disposable mug I am eliminating enough waste every day that will make a difference in the end. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Dylan Bunders 4/01/2019 4:52 PMI will sort through the garbage in my dorm room and recycle the necessary waste. If I ever have to use plastic water bottles, I will reuse them throughout the day so I don't do more damage than necessary. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Heat and Cool NaturallyWhat are other ways you could use the power of the sun to reduce your own environmental footprint?
Dylan Bunders 4/01/2019 4:50 PMI can use the power of the sun to plant eco-friendly plants that will provide oxygen for us to breathe. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Dylan Bunders 4/01/2019 4:39 PMEach day, I use disposable cups, disposable lids, paper food boats, and paper bags daily. The cups and lids can be substituted with my water bottle that I plan to start using regularly, the food boats can be substituted by washable Tupperware, and I can use a reusable bag for the paper bag.
